Which is the cheapest month to sail?

In our readings of 17 October 2026, a foot passenger in a reclining seat pays, on Marseille–Ajaccio, an average of €58.64 in October 2026, €49.32 in November 2026, the gentlest month from October 2026 to August 2027, then €76.88 in August 2027, its peak across the whole window recorded. Marseille–Bastia sees a first spike as early as autumn: €60.52 on average in October 2026, then €56.37 in November 2026, a level that no longer moves until May 2027. On that route the dearest month is nonetheless August 2027, at €72.58.

Toulon–Ajaccio also runs to summer 2027 and places its trough in February 2027 (€35.77 on average), and its peak in July 2027 (€58.21 on average), in the height of next summer. The cheapest ticket across our three routes is found there, among departures still ahead: €35.60 on 6 November 2026, with Corsica Ferries. Aiming for the right month therefore matters out of Toulon as out of Marseille — but the month to avoid is not quite the same: August 2027 on the two Marseille routes, July 2027 on Toulon–Ajaccio.

With a car and a cabin, the stakes change scale: two adults, two children and a car on Marseille–Bastia reach €269.10 on average in October 2026, against €244.97 in January 2027. October 2026 nonetheless also has departures well below its average, from €259.97 for a departure on 25 October 2026: a higher monthly average does not rule out a low date. Does the day of the week change the price?

On Marseille–Ajaccio, Wednesday comes out at €55.65 on average for the foot passenger, against €61.02 on Friday. Marseille–Bastia has its trough on Tuesday (€57.73) and its peak on Friday (€62.63). On Toulon–Ajaccio, everything plays out between Thursday (€42.00) and Saturday (€48.94). The day refines the bill; it never replaces the right month.

Does Saturday cost more than Wednesday?

These are averages over the whole period: a given Saturday can cost less than a given Wednesday. The average for each day of the week, fare by fare, is on the Marseille–Ajaccio, Toulon–Ajaccio and Livorno–Bastia route pages.

Should you book early?

In our readings of 17 October 2026, 88.9% of the price changes recorded since 1 July 2026 on Marseille–Ajaccio are increases, averaging 18.1%, and 11.1% are decreases, averaging 10.1%. On Toulon–Ajaccio, the same window counts 48.0% increases (7.9% on average) and 52.0% decreases (7.6% on average).

The measure tells which way a route's prices have moved, not how far yours will move. Route pages give it for their own line, next to their cheapest upcoming departures.

An earlier, closed study measured something else: for every crossing tracked between 13 June and 11 July 2026, the gap between its first and its last recorded price. Its figures no longer move, and that is deliberate. 43.8% of those crossings had not moved, 38.9% had fallen, 17.3% had risen. On average, the gap between first and last observation was −€7.70.

Both directions exist, with real amplitudes. Upwards: the Marseille–Ajaccio crossing of 30 August 2026 went from €79.78 to €100.78 for a foot passenger; Toulon–Bastia on 9 August 2026, from €68.00 to €84.00. On the way down: Porto-Vecchio–Marseille on 24 September 2026, recorded at €82.62 at the start of the window, was showing €38.62 on 11 July 2026 with La Méridionale; Ajaccio–Marseille on 3 October 2026 went from €81.95 to €38.95, again with La Méridionale, over the same window. On the foot-passenger reclining-seat profile alone, out of Marseille and Toulon, crossings lost more than €5 between two readings, down to −€32.00.

Those four weeks are not a general law; the continuous reading above has taken over from them, route by route. Both measures agree on one point: a displayed price is neither a guaranteed floor nor a ceiling.

Does the price of the same sailing rise as departure nears?

Following the same sailing removes the seasonal effect that weighs on averages by booking lead time: only the change in the displayed price of a given crossing counts. This is not the share of rises quoted above, which counts every price change on a route from one reading to the next. It describes displayed prices, not a company's pricing policy.
