A motorhome does not book like a car. The companies serving Corsica class it by overall height and length, sometimes require a certificate, and set their own rules for gas, for a trailer or for the battery of an electric car. This guide gathers what each of them publishes in its fare grids, general conditions and FAQs, documents checked on 24 September 2026. It contains no prices.

Why does this guide give no prices?
In Tempu records the prices of a single vehicle category: the standard passenger car. The motorhome sits outside our readings, and so do the motorbike, the trailer and the van. The amounts shown on our route pages and in the ferry price guide are therefore car prices; presenting them as motorhome prices would be wrong. The companies' grids do publish some, but we never repeat a fare we have not recorded ourselves.
What those grids show without ambiguity is the mechanism: the price of a vehicle depends on its height class, then on its length. At Corsica Linea as at La Méridionale, a vehicle over 2.50 m tall is not on the same grid line as a saloon car. For an exact amount, you have to ask the company with the real dimensions of the vehicle.
Which companies take a motorhome to Corsica?
Four out of five. Corsica Ferries, Corsica Linea, La Méridionale and Moby Lines accept motorhomes on their routes to Corsica. Cors'Express, a fast ferry between Bastia and Italy, states it at the top of its own site: foot passengers only.
The choice therefore starts with the port. On our readings, Marseille is served by Corsica Linea and La Méridionale; Toulon, Nice, Sète and Savona by Corsica Ferries; Livorno by Corsica Ferries and Moby Lines; Genoa, for a vehicle, by Moby Lines alone. What height and length should you declare?
The overall height and length, accessories included. At Corsica Ferries, a roof box or a roof rack counts towards the height, and the bike carrier towards the length; the company asks you to declare any vehicle over 5 m long, 1.90 m tall or 2 m wide, which carries a surcharge. Its three height brackets are under 1.90 m, from 1.91 m to 2.40 m, and over 2.41 m.
Corsica Linea cuts at 2 m then at 2.50 m, and beyond that accepts vehicles up to 10 m long (grid applicable since 1 February 2025). La Méridionale cuts at 1.80 m then at 2.50 m (grid of 2 March 2026); its general conditions warn that an undeclared vehicle over 1.80 m tall or 5 m long can be refused or charged a flat surcharge. Moby Lines asks you to declare at booking motorhomes, caravans and any vehicle over 2.20 m tall or 1.85 m wide.
Corsica Linea and La Méridionale also require a certificate: the manufacturer's attestation or, for a converted van, a certificate from the vehicle inspection authority or an attestation from the insurer stating the motorhome status. Both grids say it in the same terms: an error on the height can keep you from boarding.
Does a camper van travel at the passenger tariff?
Yes, within size limits. Corsica Linea applies the passenger tariff to vans under 2.51 m tall and under 10.01 m long, or under 4.01 m tall and under 6.01 m long, with a gross weight below 3,500 kg and personal use. La Méridionale is stricter: under 6.01 m long, 2.40 m tall at most, gross weight below 3,500 kg and less than 150 kg of equipment beyond personal effects. Outside those limits, both companies move the vehicle to the freight tariff. Moby Lines sends vans over 6 m to its freight service.
How many gas bottles can you keep on board?
Three at most, for 47 kg in total, at Corsica Ferries as at La Méridionale, for the lighting, heating and cooking of the motorhome or caravan. Corsica Ferries adds three conditions: the bottles must sit in the vehicle's dedicated housing, spare bottles are forbidden, and the gas fridge must be switched off for the crossing. We found no equivalent figure in the public documents of Corsica Linea and Moby Lines.
A vehicle running on LPG follows another rule. La Méridionale and Corsica Linea only admit it fitted with a safety valve. Corsica Ferries asks you to switch to petrol mode and to report to the boarding staff. Moby Lines wants it declared at booking and at the port, tank half empty.
How does boarding go with a motorhome?
Earlier than on foot. Corsica Ferries closes vehicle boarding 1 hour before departure, La Méridionale expects you 1 hr 30 ahead, Moby Lines 1 hr 30 and at least 2 hours at Genoa as at Bastia. Corsica Linea refers to the time printed on the ticket. The detail, company by company, sits in our guide before you board.
Once parked, the motorhome stays shut until arrival. Corsica Ferries forbids staying in your vehicle and camping on board; Corsica Linea and Moby Lines close the garage decks for the crossing. So you climb up with what you need for the night or the day at sea: on board, the driver travels in a reclining seat, in a cabin or on deck, like any passenger. Can you take a motorbike to Corsica?
Yes, on the four companies that carry vehicles. Corsica Linea separates motorbikes under 100 cm3 from those of 100 cm3 and over, La Méridionale has a "motorbike 100 cm3 and over" category, and both class sidecars and quads apart. Moby Lines groups motorbikes, mopeds and scooters together. Corsica Ferries accepts only one vehicle per booking: two motorbikes mean two tickets, each with its rider.
With a trailer or a caravan, what do you declare?
The length of the whole rig, drawbar included, and the tallest height. La Méridionale puts it this way: the declared height is that of the taller of the two vehicles, the length that of the entire rig. Corsica Ferries keeps a "towed elements" section for the trailer and the caravan and warns that a false declaration found out at the port can cost you the boarding, its garages being limited. Moby Lines treats the vehicle and its trailer as a single loading unit.
Detached from its vehicle, a caravan changes tariff: Corsica Linea and La Méridionale charge at the freight tariff caravans, boats on trailers and trailers travelling without their towing vehicle. Corsica Linea has a "luggage trailer" category up to 2 m, drawbar included.
Can you board an electric car?
Yes, but two companies regulate the battery charge. Corsica Linea requires a charge below 30% at boarding time; La Méridionale, between 20% and 80%. Both forbid charging in the ship's garages. La Méridionale notes that no regulation specific to electric vehicles applies to ships, only recommendations, among them those of the European Maritime Safety Agency and of insurers.
We found no published rule on the subject at Corsica Ferries or at Moby Lines as of 24 September 2026. Better to ask the question when booking.
